Every Day Yoga by Tara Stiles
One Time At Yoga Camp…
I met my husband
Jul 9, 2008
Last year I went to yoga camp for an Easter weekend retreat. I had nothing better going on that weekend. I hadn’t planned on going home to see family and I wasn’t working so I figured, what the heck, yoga camp sounds like a hoot!
Also an important note here is my relationship status…completely and utterly single. I had semi-recently been a survivor of the termination of a very drawn out ending to my first “grown up” relationship. I made it through experiences of emotional ranges I didn’t know I was capable of. I was back in that happy place again of having fun enjoying things I liked. Beyond ready to start again, I was fully enjoying hanging out with myself, and not looking for love.
What a great time to be in your sweatpants all weekend at yoga camp! The timing couldn’t have been better for me to live in my pj’s and practice some yoga and meditation.
And here comes the cosmic trick.
There must be a universal karma that picks out single people in their happy stages of wanting to be single and not looking and toss them into what we all want: love. I do yoga to remind myself that I have an endless supply in myself. Finding it in another person would just be a bonus that I proclaimed didn’t exist.
So I don’t really know what happened but I sensed someone from across the room that I wanted to be close to. Michael will tell the story that he saw me from across the room and got that hit over the head feeling that he’s always been searching for. I guess my sensibilities are a little less dramatic. I approached him. He had chocolate. It was about the chocolate, of course. We chatted the usual forgettable hi how are you banter that is hard to remember when you’re trying not to blush.
