Ask the Yoga Teacher
Concentrating during yoga?
Answered by Michael Lee, MA, founder of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy.
I suffer from OCD and find it hard to focus fully on yoga. I feel the benefits when I do yoga, but I get bored and struggle to concentrate. Any advice? -Adrian
I have worked with several yoga therapy clients with OCD over the years who have found yoga and yoga therapy most helpful. Most people try to fight the feelings when they get bored or notice they are losing focus. Strangely enough, the best thing to do is not to fight those feelings but to simply notice them and accept them. As hard as it may be to stay focused, yoga can give you a great vehicle for dealing with a recurring life pattern that might underly your symptoms. You might want to try a series of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy sessions with a trained practitioner. PRYT practitioners are often familiar with this condition and can safely and effectively support you in working with it.
