Tip on: Malasana

Since your legs are in external rotation here, keep your toes turned out the direction your knees are facing. This position allows the rotation to occur healthfully, and your knee joints won't take the strain.  Popping in the joints is common, and not cause for concern--but pain is worrisome, so if you need to go higher, place your forearms on your thighs, and lift your hips into a variation, working lower over time.
