Flex Time: Knee

By Kristen Dollard

By rotating your knee joints outward and inward, as well as flexing (bending) and extending (straightening) them, you'll not only improve their stretchability, you'll improve your backbend ability too. And, once you relax, the leg muscles melt toward the floor so the body's weight can sink down into the bones, rooting out any tension that has settled into your legs.

Extend right leg and fold left leg beside buttocks. Spread legs comfortably. You can: a) lean forward reaching for shins, ankles, or feet so shoulders are square over extended knee; or b) bring body between legs and lean as far forward as possible. (The first mainly stretches hamstrings, while the second stretches the groin more.)
