Baby Your Back: Neck and Shoulder Pain
You know how you usually stare up at your hand during Triangle? Another Viniyoga difference you'll likely notice in these routines is that you move your head in some poses rather than keeping it static. The idea: Take pressure off the neck. Problems in the neck and shoulders are often caused by chronic tension--that achiness and tightness after a long day of too much stress and not enough exercise. However, it's important to differentiate between ordinary neck tension and cervical disk problems. If you have tingling or numbness down the arm, see a neurologist.
1. Thunderbolt Variation
Stand on your knees, arms overhead. On exhale, sweep arms behind your back and bring hands to the sacrum, palms facing behind you.
Simultaneously sit back on your heels and lower into Child's Pose, turning your head to the left, right cheek to the floor. On inhale, return to starting position. Repeat 12 times, turning head to alternate sides.
